Narrated by Hajji Abdu Settar Mohammed Bashir
One day Sheikh Nasreddin was sitting at the window of his house and he saw one man, his neighbour, running through the heavy rain.
He called out, “This rain is a gift from God. Why do you try to run from it?”
So the neighbour didn’t know how to answer and became ashamed of his act and started to walk and he got wet.
(The narrator says proverb which means that if you heap up extra grain for someone, sooner or later grain will be heaped for you.)
So one day Jiha Nasreddin (Jiha – an extra name for Nasreddin) was walking on the street and heavy rain came and the man, his neighbour, sat at his window and watched Nasreddin running.
He called out, “Why do you run from the rain that is a gift of God?”
Nasreddin says, “You see, I run because I don’t want to spoil God’s gift by stepping on it. So I have to run.”
So he ran on to his house without getting too wet.
